...why am i here tonight?....

......i was playing a set the other night at Borders...as i was  cruising along through my set i noticed there weren't that many people there...i started to ask myself why i was even there.....

...then at the end of the night a sad looking older gentleman came up to me and said "thank you....your music is beautiful".....i thanked him and asked him if he was a musician...his face suddenly lit up and said no but that his father was a musician ...a great jazz musician...i could tell he was really moved....after that he insisted on helping  me carry some of my gear out to my car..

...that made my night........it was a great reminder to keep the focus off of myself and what i might be getting out of it, because you never know at any given moment who's life you might touch....

Very nice...Remember what I told you before that at the end of the day I think of who I connected with / touched that day and that it makes me feel glad when I know that I have made someone's day different from what they have expected when they wake up in the morning?  That is exactly the same as what you wrote here.  Isn't amazing how that unfolds? I am glad you felt great about your experience...

I love this...

Music and writing are similar in that way. You really honestly never know whose life you might touch, and how. I once had someone come up to me something like two years after I had written a "failed" piece-- no buzz, no feedback, no interest in a follow-up piece, etc.-- and tell me how much that short piece had affected him.

Grace and strength to you, friend.
